Better Together:

Let's Get Down to Business in the 603

In uncertain times, and in an environment where the competition is stiff and the critics are many, not only do school librarians need to know what works, and how to demonstrate that these practices work, but they need a savvy business plan to ensure survival. The development of a brand is a crucial business concept that helps to convey the entire experience customers and prospective customers can expect from your school library. AASL has defined standards and provided related resources to help demonstrate that our services are essential and contribute to learning and achievement, but it is up to each of us to ensure our “franchises” flourish by understanding the "why" and "how to" further develop the school library brand.

Author James Ponti

JamesPonti.com

James Ponti is the New York Times Bestselling author of four Middle Grade book series including City Spies, Framed, and the upcoming Sherlock Society. He grew up in a small Florida beach town but had a life-altering experience as a nine-year old while visiting relatives in New Hampshire. Watching them play every day on television, he fell madly in love with the Boston Red Sox. This was a one-sided relationship that over the next twenty-nine years gave him flashes of euphoria followed by gut wrenching pain. The only way to cope with this roller coaster of emotions was to become a writer. (See: John Updike, Stephen King.) He is excited to return to the Granite State and meet its amazing non-heartbreaking librarians knowing he would never would’ve become an author if it hadn’t been for Manchester, the Sox, and Bucky Bleeping Dent. He lives with his family in Orlando, Florida.
